Mellisuga minimaThe Vervain Hummingbird, Mellisuga minima, is a species of hummingbird in the Trochilidae family. It is found in the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica, and is a vagrant to Puerto Rico. Its natural are subtropical or tropical moist lowland and heavily degraded former forest. It is of note as being allegedly the second smallest bird in the world after its close cousin, the Bee Hummingbird. Typical length is 6 cm (2.4 in), including the bill, and weight is 2-2.4 grams. It also allegedly has the smallest egg in the bird world, with an average length of 1 cm (0.39 in) and weight of 0.375 grams.
